Maerim Elephant Sanctuary
So I went to Chiang Mai in July 2022 and went to one of the elephant sanctuaries over there. I picked the one recommended by the receptionist at my hostel (Common Hostel) - which was the Maerim Elephant Sanctuary costing 1,600 THB. I took the afternoon trip whereby the driver picked me up at about 1230pm from the hostel and I think it was a 40min drive to the place. Together in the car were a German family, a solo traveler from Scotland, a couple of undetermined European friends and one girl from Japan. Omg feels so long to journal/ document the whole process ! xD Anyways here are some pictures. All in all I had a blast! It was a first experience, learning about the elephant and of course the feel good factor that you're somehow helping in the conservation effort of wildlife. Most of the elephants were from riding camps : reminder to not support these riding tours in which the elephants might be exposed to less than ideal living condition just so you can get some fun out of it.
